Shetzer said ongoing fundraising drives have secured some funds needed to pay for the work, estimated at $2.8 million. “The community has embraced the Y,” Shetzer told commissioners. On Wednesday, Stark County commissioners adopted a resolution that will allow the Stark County Port Authority to issue as much as $3 million in economic development revenue bonds to the YMCA to fund the project. The “Jackson Y,” as its commonly known, was built for 7,500 members but currently boasts about 10,000. But it’s already outgrown its space, due to a large demand for more programming and space, according to Tim Shetzer, chief executive officer of the YMCA of Central Stark County. The facility on Caritas Circle NW - near the high school, library, and community parks - is only eight years old.
